Koinonia Eco Home
Check out our blog posts about the Koinonia Eco Home
In 2011, we began the first stages of creating a sustainable model home right here in Rogers Park. The Koinonia Eco-Home, as we call it, is an intentional faith-based community house hosted by the United Church of Rogers Park United Methodist Church. As part of our partnership with United Church, our team designed and implemented several sustainability retrofits at the house in order to demonstrate the practicality of home-centered solutions. Our work this summer included building a 3-bin compost, a chicken-coop, a bike rack, rain barrels, a rain garden, changing out faucets to low-flow, and experimenting with gray water systems. These projects are intended to be replicable for other members of our community. Although being entirely sustainable is a long process, our projects in 2011 helped us in a big way.
